Students of Physical Theatre at the University of Gloucestershire perform a sound and movement piece inspired by the theme ‘Lie of the Land’ and the natural world,  created and directed by Gillian Yates.  Costumes were designed by Guild member Kathryn Clarke working with young textile artists in Stroud.

The project included NHS staff and volunteer body and voice workshops led by Gillian Yates in partnership with Gloucester Royal Hospital, giving NHS staff and volunteers a nourishing experience engaging in confidence boosting body and voice exercises after a stressful eighteen months of dealing with Covid at Gloucester Royal.

Bind us to the earth: NHS staff and volunteer body and voice workshops led by Gillian Yates August 2021

The workshops were set up by Anoushka Duroe-Richards, Arts co-ordinator at Gloucester hospital, taking place in the Chapter House at Gloucester cathedral giving NHS staff and volunteers the opportunity for a nourishing experience, engagaging in confidence boosting body and voice exercises after a stressful eighteen months of dealing with Covid at Gloucester hospital.

All of the participants verbally commented on how peaceful the cathedral space was and how grateful they were for the opportunity to attend. They enjoyed, in the words of one of the participants, ''contacting the earth with their feet and the heavens with their arms''.

The workshops were such a success that Gloucester hospital has decided to offer further body and voice workshops starting in November 2021 so that more staff and volunteers can benefit from some creative and stimulating time away from their demanding hospital work.
