During the festival, the Guild’s furniture makers displayed some of their work at a selling exhibition at St. Eadburgha’s Church just outside Broadway on the road to Snowshill.
The furniture included the eye-catching but practical creations by Derek Elliott and pieces illustrating David Murray’s affinity with raw wood. The clever, adaptable work of John Jacques – a computer cabinet and tables – has recently won him a place on the Crafts Council’s Hothouse programme to support and develop young makers. Kristian Pettifor is another young maker, producing furniture that combines simple yet strong forms with interesting textures. The turned, rushed-seated chairs of Paul Spriggs are modern-day classics, beautifully designed and made, they will last a lifetime – and more.
