Chris Butcher | Furniture Maker
Like all designers and makers my influences are many and varied. I am interested in building and manufacture, in the development of ideas, the making and the finished product.
Although I completed a formal education in Industrial Design Engineering, I feel most at home working with wood. I make furniture and have designed a range of products: toys – often based around intriguing mechanisms - fixtures and fittings that I make in small production runs.
I also run, on a part time basis, a workshop for adults with learning disabilities, which aims to provide learning opportunities in a calm and creative environment.
I grew up in a part of Hampshire well known for buildings designed and built by several of those celebrated in this (the adjacent) Museum. My father taught at the site of some of these, Bedales School, and taught me woodwork too.
I show more examples of my work on Instagram – xapi.
In addition to the Guild I can be contacted by e-mail – firstname.lastname@example.org.
