I joined the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen in 2009 as an associate member after gaining a first class honours degree in ceramics at Bath Spa University.
Working from my own studio at my home in Bath I make blue and white screen printed ceramics. I print directly onto the clay and then hand build each piece individually. After the first firing the work is glazed and re-fired and the beautiful colour of the cobalt oxide shines through. Most of the work is then finished with an extravagant gold lustre.
I get inspiration from various sources, I am currently using 2 designs, the first is based mainly on patterns from vintage “Sunday best” tea sets. My more recent design is based on drawings I made on a walk through Sydney Gardens in Bath, of the many decorative buildings and bridges which can be found there and the trees and birds are inspired by the traditional willow pattern.
