Louise Pocock

I work from my studio in the beautiful Malvern Hills. It is inspiring to be in an area steeped in rich landscapes.

Creatively, with both my hat making and textile flora, I am inspired by the strength and relationship of colour, the combination of materials, textures, and the intricate details that bring a piece to life. I have a deep love of working in three dimensions, exploring how form, structure, and movement interact. Everything is handmade—from shaping the felt and hand stitching every aspect of the hat to meticulously crafting each flower, plant or feather trim.

As well as millinery, textile plant and flower making  has become a particular passion of mine. I specialise in both botanical hand painted silk and textile flower making, using traditional techniques alongside contemporary approaches to create sustainable, lifelike, fantastical or stylised designs. I have made flowers for hats for many years, but my love of colour and form has led me to branch out into textile sculpture, where I can push the boundaries of scale, structure, and artistic expression.

As a registered City and Guilds microcentre, I also teach recreational millinery, from beginner to advanced levels, alongside one-day workshops. I believe it is vital to pass on the ‘secrets’ of these traditional crafts to the next generation, ensuring these skills continue to thrive.
