From my studio in Worcester, I throw stoneware ceramics on the wheel; a process I find mindful and beautiful and helps me find balance alongside my other passion as a primary school teacher.
I like to make pots that will be held and used daily, that aim to be functional, beautiful and perhaps bring an element of mindfulness to your daily rituals, such as your first morning coffee. My work is often described as being fresh, yet quiet and soft. I make calm and subtly coloured glazes, combined with crafting simple and minimal shapes, to create timeless forms that feel classic and modern at once.
I have always been a maker and studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. However, it wasn’t until several years later during a pottery evening class in Malvern that I finally discovered that I am creatively motivated by considering form and function, rather than primarily creative expression. I love the routine and repetition of working with clay and like to design and decorate informed by the materials, processes and ethics. For example, for environmental reasons, I like to make simple pale glazes, use natural materials such as ash, and minimal amounts of colouring metal oxides.
