Crafts Alive - Flowers and the Maker Collaboration - Su Trindle

Several Guild makers are collaborating with local florists who focus on sustainable practices to create installations at Rodmarton Manor reflecting the theme of this year's show, 'Flowers and the Maker'.

Florist Kate Colwell and jeweller Su Trindle are creating a lively, harmonious display of jewellery and floral arrangements using the fireplace and mantelpiece in the Townsend bedroom.

Having completed an trained with The Soil Association and been a grower at River Cottage, Kate set up her own flower growing business, Fox Lane Flowers. Kate grows all her flowers at Oakbrook Community Farm in Stroud, where she makes her gorgeous seasonal bouquets and arrangements and offers courses and workshops.

A long-standing Guild member, Su creates modern resin and recycled silver jewellery in her workshop in Bath. The work Su is making for this collaboration is informed by early 20th Century Japanese design and Art Nouveau with its sinuous lines, tendrils, and floral motifs. Kate will complement this with restrained, delicate ikebana on the mantelpiece.

Following an animated discussion about the gilded mirror over the mantel Kate will be arranging an exuberant display in the fireplace.  The palette, featuring muted pinks, greens, and golds drawn from this space, reflects the season and conveys a sense of harmony, elegance, and luxury.
