A Rewarding Hospital Commission for Francesca Chalk

Guild member and illustrator Francesca Chalk, was recently commissioned to produce artwork to go on the walls and ceilings of the Women’s Day Unit at Horton Hospital in Banbury.

The spaces were quite stark and clinical so the idea was to give visitors and staff something pleasant and relaxing to focus on while they’re in there, ideally helping to create a more calming environment for everyone.

Francesca says it was a really rewarding project to take on.

In all there are 4 large circular pieces, 2 for the ceilings of treatment rooms, and 2 for the walls of a huge lightwell in the middle of the ward.  Pictured here are examples of Francesca's original artwork and some pieces in situ.
