Our New Guest Maker - Jen Williams

Our guest maker for July and August is Cornish jeweller, JenWilliams.

Jen Williams lives in far West Cornwall on the edge of the moors that lie between West Penwith’s rugged North coast and the more tranquil Mounts Bay to the South. Its ever-changing beauty provides a constant source of inspiration.

Jen enjoys working with a variety of creative mediums to help develop her artistic process and practise. She creates entirely handcrafted silver pieces using traditional silversmithing techniques and tools to form organic shapes and textures that mirror the wild landscape.

Each piece is consciously created from recycled silver which has been melted down using a process practiced by metalsmiths throughout the ages to produce fully-traceable and audited silver, while reducing the demand for newly mined precious metals with the negative impact this has on our natural world.

Combining silver with materials that have been ethically sourced wherever possible and working mainly with recycled glass beads, semi-precious stones and occasionally beach pebbles; each piece has a sculptural quality and an understated elegance.

Jen’s work focuses on Cornwall’s coast and moorlands, influenced by her love of granite in all its forms. From the giant standing stones and quoits to the rugged cliffs that form the coastline and beaches. Jen's says “Each piece of jewellery is inspired by the natural beauty of Cornwall and the feelings it evokes. It is my way of interpreting these surroundings in a wearable as well as visual art form.”

Jen Williams Jones a member of The St Ives Society of artists and Cornwall Crafts Association. Her work is exhibited in galleries in Cornwall, The Isles of Scilly and across the UK.
