Congratulations to Neil MacGregor & Val Michael!

Leatherworkers and long-standing Guild members Val Michael and Neil MacGregor are delighted to have been chosen by Homo Faber to feature on its prestigious website.

We asked Val to explain the selection process, how being chosen could benefit their craft business, and why more craftspeople should consider applying.

Val said "At the end of March, Clementine Loustric, a reporter for the Homo Faber guide, contacted us.

In her email she said ‘You were recently recommended to Homo Faber as an artisan of excellence. We are excited to confirm that we would like to invite you to be featured on Homo Faber Guide, a curated digital platform which maps exceptional craftsmanship around the world.

Featuring on Homo Faber Guide is free of charge and is an opportunity to have your work and passion explained and presented online to a large audience. Launched in 2020, Homo Faber Guide highlights over 4,500 artisans in fifty-three countries. As part of the community, you will be considered for all projects, including Homo Faber Biennial in Venice, and other Homo Faber exhibitions.’

She then interviewed us on Microsoft Teams and distilled it into the number of words and format for the guide. We sent images and they picked those they felt represented our work. It was published on 23 July.

Neil and I sell our work to a global customer base. People see our work in social media, or by talking to friends and then look at our website to buy a piece of our work. Being in the Homo Faber Guide may add to this exposure and help potential customers have the confidence to contact us and begin the conversation. I recommend that Guild members look at the Homo Faber web site and apply if they might like to be included. "

Congratulations both and thank you for your candour. Please take a look at the MacGregor/Michael page on Homo Faber here
