Our New Guest Exhibitor - Ceramicist Adam Buik
We are absolutely thrilled to have some of ceramicist Adam Buik's work available in our shop in Cheltenham.
A long-time fan of Adam's work, Tracey (our fab shop manager) was inspired to ask him to exhibit after seeing his work in his home city of St David's during a weekend break. Loving his reaction to the landscape of the Pembrokeshire coast, she felt the tamer hills of the Cotswolds evoke a similar reaction that would speak to the Guild's audience.
Adam is very well known and has work in the permanent collection of the V&A.
He says, 'My work uses a single pure jar form as a canvas to map my observations from an ongoing study of my surroundings. I incorporate stone and locally dug clay into my work to create a narrative, one that conveys a unique sense of place. The unpredictable nature of each jar comes from the inclusions and their metamorphosis during firing. This individuality and tension between materials speaks of the human condition and how the landscape shapes us as individuals'.
